I was overjoyed to get the chance to work with Millennium Gallery and host this evening workshop for them. I’ve always loved charm necklaces and creating jewellery pieces, both for personal wear and my previous online business.
During the first half of the session the group did a creative collage warm up session before moving onto the basics of jewellery making.
In this section, I talked through the different types of gold we would be using, each of the components and their use, as well as practising using them, for example; opening jump rings. This was an important aspect of the workshop to ensure the participant would not only go home with a charm necklace but a foundation of knowledge to create more items of jewellery at home.
Through thoughtful selection and playful composition, the participant crafted a necklace that felt personal and unique to you. There was a striking selection of beads and charms to choose from – some of which repurposed materials – so new life could be given to forgotten treasures; learning how creativity and sustainability can go hand in hand.
My aim was to create a workshop that is perfect for those drawn to sentimental symbols, playful trinkets, and self-expression through making.
