“Dreaming our homes as nest and shells” is a project that combines memory, childhood and the family archive. An ode to the dolls house from my childhood, a beautifully carved gift built by my grandfather. This article is representative of my perspective of my grandparents home, in which I not only explore the stillness residing in both of these subjects, but how they retain valuable memories in the form of archaic objects overtime. This piece took a variety of forms which is inclusive of a handbound book, prints and a video installation piece inclusive of music played and recorded by myself. This work was exhibited for my degree show (2018) at Manchester Metropolitan School of Art and also taken to Arles Photo Festival (2018) “Home” is a word that has always felt loaded; it encapsulates so much in the where and what that sometimes we forget about the who. For this reason, my work sometimes feels a little selfish but it is a theme that my core creativity comes back to time and time again.
